₹40 Lakh Cash Award To CWG Bronze Medallist Lifter Harjinder Kaur By Punjab Government

The AAP government of Punjab has announced a cash reward of Rs 40 Lakh to weightlifter Harjinder Kaur, a resident of Nabha, as she won a bronze medal in 71kg category at the current Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. In a series of tweets, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann quoted (originally in Punjabi):

“Punjab’s weightlifter Harjinder Kaur won a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games-2022. Harjinder Kaur, a resident of Nabha, will be awarded with a prize money of Rs 40 lakh under the sports policy of the Punjab government. This achievement of Harjinder will encourage sportspersons, especially our daughters in future…”

Even the prime minister Narendra Modi congratulated Harjinder Kaur. In a tweet, PM Modi quoted:

“Our weightlifting contingent has performed exceptionally well at the Birmingham CWG. Continuing this, Harjinder Kaur wins a Bronze medal. Congratulations to her for this special accomplishment. Best wishes to her for her future endeavours.”

On Monday night, Harjinder finished with a total of 212kg (93 in snatch and 119 in clean and jerk). On the other hand, with a total weight of 229 kg, Sarah Davies of England won the Gold, while Alexis Ashworth of Canada took home the silver with 214 kg. The residents of Nabha have been celebrating since Harjinder Kaur won the Bronze medal.
