77 Years Old Folk Singer Gurmeet Bawa Passes Away Today In Amritsar

Punjabi Singer Gurmeet Bawa who is known for her long ‘hek’ which she could hold for about 45 seconds died today on Sunday morning. The singer passed away at the age of 77. According to the reports of The Tribune, she has been suffering from quite long and died after battling with prolonged illness. She breathed her last at a hospital in Amritsar.

Speaking of the singer, she was one of the singers known for singing ‘Jugni’ after Alam Lohar and was the first Punjabi female singer to sing on Doordarshan. She has been the recipient of various awards and accolades, such as the Shiromani Gayika Award by the Punjab Language Department, the National Devi Ahilya Award and the State Award by the Punjab Government, among others. Further, She was married to a folk singer, Kirpal Bawa and they had three daughters.

Popular Writer and Director from Bollywood Imtiaz Ali has also expressed shock and penned down a note for the late singer. He wrote, “The eternal Jugni of Panjab, the legendary Gurmeet Bawa, the spirit of #highwaythefilm continues her divine journey. Love, gratitude and respect to her. May she rest in peace.”

Punjab’s CM Charanjit Singh Channi also took to twitter and expressed his condolences towards the late singer. 

Meanwhile, The cremation will take place on Monday, November 22. Team Kiddaan expresses its heartfelt condolences to the close ones, fans and family of the deceased artist. This is a loss that cannot be fulfilled.
