10 Movies That Won Oscars Despite Their Theme Of ‘Hatred’, But Sardar Udham Won’t

After Sardar Udham Fails To Make It To The Oscars, Here Are 10 Movies That Won Oscars Despite Their Theme Of Hatred

Shoojit Sircar and Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Sardar Udham’ is the most talked about movie currently in the country. The film has been described as a ‘masterpiece’ by the audience, who also state that it does justice to the legendary character and the story of the revolutionary Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Udham Singh Sunam.

The film’s brilliance took it to the Oscars 2022, almost! Along with Vidya Balan’s Sherni, Sardar Udham was shortlisted by the Kolkata jury that was watching 14 films to select one of them as India’s official entry at the 94th Academy Awards. However, it was ‘Koozhangal’ that made it to the Oscars 2022, and Sardar Udham was left on the shelves by the jury. Indraadip Dasgupta, a member of the selection jury, said that the movie projected ‘Hatred Towards The British’ and thus, could not be India’s entry at the Oscars 2022.

This reason did not go well with Netizens. They described that the film was true to history and whatever happened, even if it shows the British in the bad light, is all part of the history and did actually happen! They called the jury’s action of rejecting Sardar Udham as India’s entry at the Oscars, ‘Colonial Hangover’.
