AIADMK Slammed After Video Insulting Periyar, Annadurai Shown At Lord Muruga Meet

The AIADMK is facing sharp criticism after a controversial video targeting Dravidian icons Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and C.N. Annadurai was played during the Lord Muruga Conference held in Madurai. The incident has stirred a political storm in Tamil Nadu, especially given the significance of the leaders involved.

The video, reportedly displayed during a session attended by senior AIADMK leaders, accused Periyar and Annadurai of “insulting Hinduism.” The clip alleged that the two Dravidian stalwarts encouraged anti-Hindu sentiments and supported conversion to Christianity. These claims have ignited backlash from Dravidian supporters and political rivals alike.

The event, which saw participation from AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, took a controversial turn with the playing of the video. Although Palaniswami later clarified that the clip was not officially endorsed by the party, it has nonetheless created ripples in the state’s political landscape.

DMK leaders were quick to condemn the incident, accusing AIADMK of attempting to rewrite history and stir communal sentiments for political gains. Many have demanded an apology and strict action against those responsible for screening the content.

Observers believe the controversy could have electoral consequences, particularly among the core Dravidian vote base. The AIADMK, already navigating political challenges post-Jayalalithaa, now finds itself in a storm of its own making, one that questions its ideological direction and political intent.
