After nearly six years, the Air India flight service between Delhi and Shanghai is officially back. The airline announced that non-stop flights will resume from February 1 next year, marking a major restoration of India–China connectivity. The reinstated service underscores the growing economic and diplomatic engagement between the two countries and highlights renewed opportunities in travel, trade, and education. This reopening marks a new chapter for international travellers relying on the Air India flight route.

Air India confirmed that the Delhi–Shanghai route will operate four times a week using the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, equipped with 18 Business Class flatbeds and 238 Economy seats. The airline also shared that, once regulatory approvals are secured, it aims to launch a Mumbai–Shanghai connection in 2026, further expanding the Air India flight network.
A Strategic Move Strengthening India–China Travel
CEO Campbell Wilson described the resumption as more than a simple route comeback. He called it “a bridge between two great, ancient civilisations,” emphasising how the Air India flight link supports opportunities in business, technology, healthcare, culture, and education.
The revival follows recent diplomatic agreements that reopened suspended air links after 2020. Air India first launched services to mainland China in 2000, and the renewed Air India flight corridor is expected to boost bilateral exchanges in pharmaceuticals, technology, and academics.

Bookings for the Delhi–Shanghai service are already being progressively opened across all channels.
