Anmol Gagan Maan resigns as Kharar MLA, leaves AAP and quits politics today

Anmol Gagan Maan, the Punjabi singer‑turned‑AAP MLA from Kharar, submitted her resignation to Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan in Chandigarh on July 19, 2025. She announced in a Punjabi post on X that she is stepping away from both the MLA post and active politics with a “heavy heart” and asked for immediate acceptance of her resignation. The 35‑year‑old was also an AAP minister until being dropped in September 2024.

Maan gained fame first as a model and Punjabi singer with popular tracks like “Suit,” “Ghaint Purpose,” and “Sherni.” She joined AAP in 2020 and crafted a hit campaign song for the 2022 elections. That year she won the Kharar seat by a margin of about 37,718 votes and was later appointed Tourism and Culture Minister. In September 2024 she left the cabinet amid anti‑incumbency concerns.

Her departure leaves the Kharar seat vacant and could weaken AAP’s hold in Mohali district. It may also open the door for new leadership locally or hint at broader shifts in Punjab politics. A by‑poll date is yet to be announced, pending the Speaker’s decision.
