Assam Police books Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina & Other YouTubers for promoting obscenity

On February 10, 2025, Guwahati Police registered an FIR against YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija for allegedly promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions on the show ‘India’s Got Latent’.  

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the development on social media, stating that the FIR was filed under sections 79, 95, 294, and 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The case also invokes provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.  

The content in question featured discussions deemed vulgar and obscene, violating Indian laws on public decency and media regulations. The investigation is currently underway, with authorities indicating that further legal actions will be taken based on the findings.  

In response to the controversy, Ranveer Allahbadia issued a public apology, acknowledging a lapse in judgment and expressing regret for any offense caused.  

The case highlights ongoing concerns about content regulation on digital platforms and the responsibilities of content creators in adhering to legal and ethical standards.
