In a heart-wrenching incident in Bengaluru, a 29-year-old man lost his life after a large tree branch unexpectedly fell on him, causing multiple injuries to his skull. The tragic accident occurred near Cubbon Park Metro Station in the early hours of Sunday, leaving the tech community and city residents in shock.
The deceased, identified as Rakshit D, was a resident of Girinagar and worked in the tech industry. According to reports, Rakshit was walking with a friend when a massive branch from a rain tree suddenly snapped and fell directly on his head. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to the injuries shortly after. The post-mortem report revealed 12 skull fractures, making it clear that the injuries were fatal.
Eyewitnesses and Rakshit’s family members have expressed anger over the negligence of civic authorities, especially the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which is responsible for maintaining trees in public areas. Locals claim that repeated complaints about weakened trees and overgrown branches have gone unheard.
Following the incident, BBMP officials launched a preliminary investigation and assured action. However, the tragic death has sparked widespread calls for better tree maintenance, regular pruning, and stricter safety checks in public spaces.
As urban infrastructure continues to expand, experts emphasize the need for balancing greenery with citizen safety. Rakshit’s untimely de*th stands as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by neglected urban trees.
