Bihar’s 14-Year-Old Cricket Star Vaibhav Suryavanshi Gets Rs10 Lakh From CM

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a cash reward of ₹10 lakh for 14-year-old cricket prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made headlines after smashing the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history. Representing Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, the Bihar-born teenager achieved the feat in just 35 balls during a match against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur, surpassing Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball century record from 2010. This was only Suryavanshi’s third appearance in the league, and his explosive innings of 101 off 38 balls marked him as the youngest ever to score a century in IPL.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed immense pride in the young cricketer’s achievement. “Congratulations and best wishes to Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, who became the youngest player (14 years) to score a century in the history of IPL. He has become a new hope for Indian cricket on the strength of his hard work and talent,” Kumar posted on X. He also recalled meeting Vaibhav and his father in 2024 and wishing him a bright future.

Following the landmark performance, Nitish Kumar personally congratulated Vaibhav over a phone call and announced the ₹10 lakh honorarium from the Bihar government. “I wish that Vaibhav creates new records for the Indian team in the future and brings glory to the country,” the CM said. Notably, Vaibhav was signed by Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.1 crore in the previous year’s mega auction, becoming the youngest player to secure an IPL contract.
