BJP’s Claim: Bihar Dy-CM Tejashwi Yadav Ate Meat On Independence Day Despite Ban

The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar, of eating meat on Independence Day despite the ban. BJP spokesperson Arvind Singh, in a video message, claimed that Tejashwi Yadav had non-vegetarian meals on August 15 with Abdul Bari Siddiqui, senior RJD leader, in Patna.

BJP spokesperson Arvind Singh, in a video message, said, “On August 15, both the killing of animals and the sale of liquor are banned in the nation. By having meat at the residence of an RJD politician on this particular day, Bihar DyCM Tejashwi Yadav has tried to break the spirit of nationalism and damaged the patriotic spirit. What sensitivity will he exhibit towards the people of Bihar if he has no compassion for animals?”

The BJP’s claim has initiated a war of words with not just the RJD, but the Mahagathbandhan, an alliance of RJD, JDU, Congress and Left parties, that is ruling in Bihar since Nitish Kumar quit the NDA. Tejashwi Yadav is the deputy chief minister of Bihar under the CMship of Nitish Kumar.

Since Nitish Kumar has jumped ship, the BJP is not leaving a single chance to question or slam the Mahagathbandhan leaders on certain issues. In 2020, the BJP and the JD(U) contested the Bihar assembly elections in an alliance, and won with a thin majority as the RJD gave a tough fight to the NDA alliance.

As per the numbers, the JD(U) has 43 MLAs, while the RJD has 79, BJP has 74, Congress with 19 and the left parties together has 16 MLAs. The newly formed Mahagathbandhan alliance stands at more than 161 with JD(U), RJD, INC, HAM and left parties coming together. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party stands alone at 74 MLAs in the opposition now.
