The new Chief Minister of Delhi will be taking his oath on Thursday at the iconic Ramlila Maidan, in a grand ceremony that promises to be a historic event. The ceremony, scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm, will be attended by BJP leaders, ministers, allies, and various dignitaries. The BJP’s return to power in Delhi after 26 years will be marked by a colorful musical performance, with Kailash Kher among the performers, before the swearing-in takes place.
Key figures, including Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from 20 states, diplomats from major countries, BJP workers from other states who campaigned in the Delhi elections, and over 50 film stars and industrialists, are expected to be present. The ceremony will also see the attendance of Delhi’s farmers, beneficiaries of central government schemes, and ordinary citizens. Prominent spiritual leaders like Baba Ramdev, Swami Chidananda, and Baba Bageshwar Dhirendra Shastri will represent the religious community.
Despite the fanfare, the identity of the new Chief Minister remains unclear. The announcement has been delayed due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s overseas visits, and even after his return, the suspense continues. Parvesh Verma, son of former CM Saheb Singh Verma, is considered a strong contender, but sources say more than 15 names are in the running. The BJP’s 48 MLAs will meet on Wednesday to select their leader, who will replace AAP’s Atishi, following the BJP’s decisive victory in the recent election, winning 48 out of 70 seats.
