BookMyShow 2022: Diljit Dosanjh & Alan Walker Tops Artistes; KGF Chapter 2, RRR Most Watched Films!

As per a new analysis by BookMyShow, which examines top trends for 2022, pent-up demand among audiences who were confined to their homes for more than two years during the Covid pandemic, has resulted to increase a significant interest of people in movies, live events, and other entertainments. Reportedly, the data has been collected between January 1 to December 5, 2022.

Notably, Bollywood hits like Brahmastra, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Drishyam 2, and The Kashmir Files also made into the list, along with south Indian blockbusters like KGF: Chapter 2, RRR, Kantara, and Ponniyin Selvan: 1. Moreover, as the entertainment sector revived after the Covid pandemic, the year witnessed almost 19,000 on-ground events. 

Notably, India experienced a 59% increase in transactions in tier-two and above markets. As per the data, a total of 8 million people attended live events this year. Surprisingly, BookMyShow sold 2.14 million tickets on April 14, 2022, the most for a single day across all categories.

Diljit Dosanjh’s most famous – Born to Shine tour topped the list in top events, followed by the Wanted India tour by Vir Das. One more surprising figure here, is that 6,00,000 entertainment individuals chose to go for events all by themselves!

Similarly, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Raipur, Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Imphal, turned out to be the top cities for live events. On the other hand, the other cities/non-metros where live events were organised, included Rajasthan’s Jaipur, Dehradoon, Lucknow, Jodhpur, Cuttack, Guwahati, and the one & only – Goa. 

Meanwhile, in terms of categories, in dance music, Alan Walker topped the list, followed by DJ Snake. On the other hand, Anubhav Bassi, Harsh Gujaral and Vir Das were the most favourite in the comedy category. Similarly, the evergreen Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh topped the list in music category. 

Furthermore, amongst the most popular movies, KGF: Chapter 2 is at the top of the list with highest tickets sold, followed by RRR, Vikram (starring Kamal Hassan) Ponniyin Selvan-1, and Brahmastra. Additionally, a few smaller-budget releases like the Kannada movie Kantara, as well as Karthikeya 2, The Kashmir Files, Sita Ramam, and 777 Charlie outperformed expectations. 

Pune, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Kochi, and Visakhapatnam were the cities with the highest volume of movie transactions. Moreover, people from the non-metropolitan cities of Ahmedabad, Trichy, Trivandrum, Madurai, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Bhubaneshwar, Mysuru, and Lucknow showed a significant interest in watching movies. 

Subsequently, the movie lovers have shown a strong interest in large-format theatres and high-end experiences, choosing 3D, IMAX 2D, IMAX 3D, and 4DX viewing over conventional cinema screens by a whopping 116% rise! On the other hand, KGF: Chapter 2 and RRR witnessed most advance ticket bookings this year, and the former sold 34% of all tickets for weekends, shattering a record of five years, surpassing Baahubali 2 to take the top spot on BookMyShow with 17.7 million sales in total!
