In a shocking incident near the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, a BSF jawan was allegedly kidn*pped by Bangladeshi nationals and taken across the border early Wednesday morning. The incident happened near Chandni Chowk, close to the BSF camp in Sutiar, Nurpur.
According to BSF sources, the trooper was trying to stop an infiltration attempt from the Bangladesh side near Kathalia village when a group of men from Chapai Nawabganj district in Bangladesh captured him.
“He was abducted by Bangladeshi nationals and was held captive, but was released within a couple of hours after we flagged the issue with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The jawan is now with us and doing fine,” a senior BSF official of the South Bengal Frontier told PTI.
The trooper was returned to Indian authorities after a flag meeting between the BSF and BGB. A video that went viral on social media showed the jawan tied to a banana tree in a remote area across the border. He was reportedly held there for nearly four hours. However, PTI could not independently verify the video’s authenticity.
Officials are now investigating how exactly the incident happened. Meanwhile, the BSF is reviewing its security measures in the area but hasn’t made an official statement yet.
