A Pakistani national was apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Punjab’s Gurdaspur for crossing into Indian territory. This incident occurred just two days after the BSF detained a Pakistani Ranger at the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan. These developments come amid heightened tensions between the two nations following the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.
The situation is further complicated by Pakistan’s continued detention of BSF constable Purnam Kumar Shaw, who “inadvertently crossed the international border from Punjab on April 23.” Despite India’s strong protest and repeated appeals, Pakistan has not released Shaw.
“Shaw was a part of the ‘kisan guard’ team tasked with protecting the farmers working near the border fence when he mistakenly crossed the border to take rest under a tree and was apprehended by Pakistan Rangers.” While such accidental crossings have been resolved quickly in the past, this time, Pakistan has not responded, even after several flag meetings.
The BSF, responsible for securing the 2,289 km-long India-Pakistan border—from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat—remains on high alert as diplomatic and border tensions persist.
