Buying A 14 Series iPhone From The US: A Good Idea? Here’s All You Need To Know!

Apple, one of the top global leaders in technology, has unveiled its newest iPhone 14 series portfolio. Moreover, the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max are the four models in this series. Furthermore, Apple has introduced e-SIM only devices for the first time in the US. So, the question arises: Will an iPhone model with a US base, function in India? Let’s discuss in detail!

Firstly, the physical SIM card slot has been eliminated by Apple in the US models of the iPhone 14. Accordingly, the US versions of the iPhone 14 series exclude a physical tray to place the sim cards in, it will only support eSIMS. These US-based iPhones cannot function with a physical SIM.

However, the good news for the Indians is that e-SIMs are supported by various telecom companies including Airtel, Jio, and Vi. India has been having the e-SIM option for years now. These telecoms have already been registered by Apple for the e-SIM service. It implies that Indian people can buy an iPhone 14 from the US and it will function in India. However, this only supports the “unlocked iPhones”.

But, there are various disadvantages of using a US-based iPhone 14 in India. Firstly, the contacts of the physical SIM card cannot be transferred to the eSIM, meaning if someone gets a new eSIM, he/she has to save all the contacts manually on the eSIM.

Moreover, while travelling, the users have to take the services of eSIM providers, they won’t be able to switch with a local SIM card, and even the roaming charges on the eSIMs is way much higher. Furthermore, to activate an eSIM, the user has to look on the websites of their providers, on how to activate the eSIM on their new iPhone.
