Canada-Based Gangsters Maybe Labelled As “Individual Terrorists” (Source: HT)

As per the latest development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is preparing to designate a number of wanted gangsters based in Canada as “individual terrorists” under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) as part of its aggressive campaign against key players who are allegedly operating the targeted killings in Punjab from foreign territory and are part of a terrorist-gangster nexus.(Source: Hindustan Times via Dailyhunt)

Reportedly, a recent high-level meeting of NIA was focused on adding the names of Canadian-based gangsters Satinderjit Singh alias Goldy Brar, Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dala, Lakhbir Singh alias Landa, Charanjit Singh alias Bihla, Ramandeep Singh alias Raman Judge, Gurpinder Singh alias Baba Dalla, and Sukhdul Singh alias Sukha Duneke to the UAPA list.

As of now, 48 people have been listed as “individual terrorists” under the UAPA, however the majority of them are linked to terrorist organisations supported by Pakistan.

Notably, Maulana Masood Azhar, the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed, Hafiz Saeed, the leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Dawood Ibrahim, the leader of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who is based in the United States and is accused of leading a campaign for a separate Khalistani state under the banner of “Referendum 2020,” Paramjit Singh, the head of Babbar Khalsa International in the UK, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the commander of the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF), located in Canada, and Gurmeet Singh Bagga, a member of the Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), based in Germany, are currently named in the UAPA list.

Notably, the impasse between India and Canada over this issue has persisted for a while, with India accusing Canada of not doing anything to stop those who commit hate crimes, engage in sectarian violence, and anti-Indian activities in Canada. Recently, India even requested the Canadian government to label such individuals as terrorists. Moreover, the incidents like Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder and recently Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri’s murder in broad daylight in Amritsar have feared the masses. Surprisingly, in both these incidents, Canada based gangsters claimed responsibility for these murders. Moreover, the NIA is now planning to take more strict action against the Canada-based gangsters who have been operating such criminal activities from abroad.
