Canada: Jalandhar’s Rajan Sawhney Becomes Immigration Minister Of Alberta!

Rajan Sawhney’s appointment as the Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism in the new government of Alberta, Canada, bringing laurels for Punjab as well as the entire nation. Moreover, her appointment has inspired the ladies from Punjabi communities in Canada as well as India. Notably, the 51-year-old attempted to contest for the position of Chief Minister of Alberta but was unsuccessful.

“Although Rajan Sawhney was raised in Calgary-North East, her parents were originally from Jalandhar, Punjab. They still reside in a home in the nearby village of Tower Enclave “said Gurpartap Wadala, a former MLA from Shiromani Akali Dal. Furthermore, Sawhney’s appointment as a Minister in the new government of Alberta, Canada, is a matter of pride for India. She has a long political experience. Notably, in April 2019, Sawhney was elected as MLA from Calgary-North East. She was formerly Alberta’s Executive Council’s Minister of Community and Social Services and is a member of the United Conservative Party. 

Likewise, she assumed leadership of the Ministry of Transportation in July 2022, and worked on the position for a year. Rajan Sawhney, a mother of four, remained active in the community for a long period and raised money for charitable causes. She holds an MBA from the University of Calgary in addition to degrees in political science and economics. She spent more than 20 years working in the oil and gas sector before entering into politics.
