CBI Raids At Several Locations Of Congress Leader Karti Chidambaram

A new case has been registered by the CBI against Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram, son of former finance minister P Chidambaram, for allegedly receiving illegal gratification, officials said on Tuesday. Following the registration of FIR, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting searches at multiple residential and office premises of Congress leader Karti Chidambaram. The searches are being conducted across nine locations in Mumbai, Chennai, Odisha, Punjab and Karnataka in connection with a fresh case against the Congress MP.

As per the report of NDTV India, the sources say that the Congress MP had received Rs 50 lakh alleged bribe to facilitate visa of 250 Chinese nationals for a power project in Punjab in lieu of illegal gratification between 2010-14. In the national capital, the CBI searched the 80 Lodhi Estate residence of Mr Chidambaram this morning. The CBI team questioned the staff present at his house and took some papers with them, sources said.

“There were total seven members in the CBI team. Karti Chidambaram was not at his residence during the raid at 7.30 am,” said Birbal Singh, the security guard posted at his house.

“I have lost count, how many times has it been? Must be a record,” tweeted Karti Chidambaram in view of CBI searches at his premises.

In 2019, former union minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram (Karti’s father) was arrested from his residence in a dramatic manner by the CBI in the INX Media corruption and money laundering case. The probe agency’s team, in dramatic scenes, scaled the walls of his Jor Bagh residence and took him into its custody. The previous raids were related to the irregularities in Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance in 2007 to INX Media and its then directors including Indrani Mukherjea and Peter Mukherjea.

According to the CBI officials, they have booked Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Karti for allegedly receiving foreign remittance for companies directly/indirectly linked to him.
