CBSE Plans Two Board Exams A Year For Students From 2026-27

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to introduce a Global Curriculum for foreign schools, starting from the 2026-27 academic session. This decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, where CBSE was instructed to develop a detailed action plan for its implementation. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Education, CBSE, NCERT, KVS, NVS, and representatives from international schools.

Boards- Twice A Year Additionally, CBSE is considering significant changes to the board examination structure. The Education Ministry previously proposed a draft scheme for conducting board exams twice a year, aiming to create a more stress-free academic environment for students. This proposal will soon be released for public consultation.

Currently, Class 10 and 12 board exams are conducted in February-March. The board is exploring multiple options, including a semester-based system where exams are held in January-February and March-April or conducting the second round of exams in June alongside supplementary or improvement tests. During the Covid-19 pandemic, CBSE had temporarily implemented a two-term exam structure, but later reverted to the traditional year-end examination model. The proposed reforms seek to enhance flexibility in the assessment process while maintaining academic rigor.
