We all must have seen a lot of Gutka and Pan Masala endorsements being done by the superhit celebrities like Shahrukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar.
The way these advertisements glorify Pan Masala is surprising because such advertisements make people believe that consuming pan masalas and gutkas is a “cool” habit and a sign of a gentleman.
But, trouble awaits these celebrities as the central government has taken action against actors for glorifying these gutka companies.
Central government issues notices to actors doing Gutka advertisements
The Indian government has recently informed the Allahabad High Court that the Central Consumer Protection Authority which is CCPA has issued notices to popular actors Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn on October 20 for doing advertisements for these Gutka companies and misleading the consumers.
A bench of justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan had earlier directed the central government to decide the representation of the petitioner, who had originally contended that action should be taken against the actors and dignitaries who were given high profile awards but were advertising for gutka companies.
On Friday, the High Court served notice to the Cabinet Secretary of the Central Government. After that the solicitor General SB Pandey apprised the High Court that the Central government has issued show cause notices to Akshay Kumar, Shahrukh Khan and Ajay Devgn for glorifying such products.
