Chandigarh Police have suspended a senior constable after a viral social media reel revealed that a dance performance at a busy intersection had disrupted traffic. The incident, which took place around 4:30 PM on March 22 at Gurudwara Chowk in Sector 20, gained attention when a video of the act spread rapidly online.
The video featured senior constable Ajay Kundu’s wife performing a dance routine in the middle of the road while her sister-in-law recorded the moment. Their actions led to an FIR under Sections 125, 292, and 3(5) of the BNS for obstructing traffic and endangering public safety.
Police were alerted by a special informant near a petrol pump in Sector 33. The informant reported that the women were so engrossed in filming that they ignored moving traffic and pedestrians, creating a hazardous situation. The disruption not only posed a risk to their own safety but also increased the chances of an accident.
Upon receiving the tip, a police team led by ASI Baljit Singh reviewed CCTV footage from cameras installed at Gurudwara Chowk and the Police Control Room in Sector 17. The footage confirmed the claims, showing a woman in a yellow suit and a yellow-blue dupatta dancing on the road while another, in a cream-colored printed suit, recorded her.
The video evidence revealed that traffic had come to a halt due to their actions, leading to official action against them and the suspension of the police constable.
