In response to numerous complaints from residents, the Chandigarh Excise and Taxation Department has taken strict action against nightclubs violating noise pollution rules. Eight clubs in Sectors 7 and 26 have had their liquor licences revoked for consistently breaching the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. Most of these establishments operate behind shop-cum-offices (SCOs).
This action was taken under Section 36(c) of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, which allows the cancellation of licences for violations. Among the affected clubs are Bargain Booze, Hard Rock Café, Kala, De’Orra Club, MOBE, and Boulevard in Sector 26, along with Kukuna Club and The Vault in Sector 7.
Additionally, six other clubs—including Pranster F&B Campus, Qizo Club, BrewEstate/Sante Club, Zeek Club, and WildThyme—have been issued notices for similar violations.
Excise Collector HPS Brar confirmed that repeated complaints from the Chandigarh SSP prompted the move. “These clubs violated noise pollution norms multiple times, leading to the withdrawal of their NOC. As a result, their liquor licences have been revoked,” he explained.
SSP Kanwardeep Kaur added that the police had received persistent complaints over the past year. With rising concerns from residents, the department acted swiftly, ensuring compliance with city regulations.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court had earlier ruled that police must register criminal cases against noise violators. Authorities have been instructed to monitor and enforce rules diligently, with officials held personally responsible for non-compliance.
