Charanjit Singh Channi Meets Amit Shah To Flags Lakhimpur Kheri Incident Says, ‘Won’t Tolerate Barbaric Killings’

Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday and flagged the violence that took place in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. In the brutal incident, eight persons, including four farmers, were killed during a protest on Sunday.

Both the leaders met at Shah’s residence in Delhi where Channi expressed his deep anguish over the dreadful incident and how Congress leaders going to meet the victims’ families were stopped or arrested. Channi took to his Twitter and informed about the same. He said ‘he won’t tolerate this barbaric killing in UP’.

Further, before leaving for Delhi, the Chief Minister had said in Chandigarh, “These three farm laws should be repealed at the earliest and incidents like this (Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri) need to be scrapped. I will discuss this issue with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in today’s meeting.”

Not only this, but the new CM of Punjab also brought out the home minister’s awareness towards the illegal trafficking of drugs and weapons from across the border into the state, obliging him to seal the border. This initiative would help Punjab break the supply chain of drugs, he added.

He also urges the Home Minister for reopening of Kartarpur Sahib Corridor and taking an early decision in this concern to enable devotees to pay obeisance at the sacred place. Shah guaranteed the Chief Minister that they will soon decide to open the corridor after detailed considerations, according to an official release.

Further, in the meeting except Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu, Cabinet Ministers Manpreet Singh Badal, Rana Gurjit Singh, Pargat Singh, Sangat Singh Gilzian and Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa were among those present.
