Chief Advisor Yunus Alleges Indian Plot Behind Bangladesh Crisis, Calls for National Unity

Bangladesh’s interim Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, has attributed the nation’s ongoing political turmoil to a “conspiracy” aimed at re-establishing Indian hegemony.  This assertion was conveyed by Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, following a multi-party meeting on Sunday.

Yunus emphasized the necessity for national unity to counteract this perceived external threat.  His remarks come amid escalating political instability, with opposition parties intensifying protests reminiscent of those that led to the ousting of Sheikh Hasina’s regime.

The interim government, led by Yunus, has pledged to implement democratic reforms ahead of general elections slated for no earlier than June 2026.  However, the administration faces challenges, including internal discord and allegations of undermining civil liberties.

In response to the unrest, the government launched “Operation Devil Hunt,” a nationwide crackdown targeting supporters of the former ruling party, resulting in over 11,000 arrests.

Yunus’s allegations of foreign interference have further strained relations with India, especially following recent warnings from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma against any perceived threats to India’s northeastern corridor.
