Punjab CM Mann and LoP Bajwa clash in Vidhan Sabha over ‘12 vajj gaye’ remark

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa clashed verbally in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on July 11, 2025. Mann, annoyed by Bajwa’s interruptions, exclaimed in Punjabi, “Hajje 12 vajje ne, tuanu time milooga” (It’s still 12 o’clock, you’ll get your turn). Bajwa replied sharply, “Tuaddey vajje hone ne, saadde nahi ajje vajje” (It’s your bells that are ringing, not ours). The House erupted in laughter and disorder.

The phrase “12 vajj gaye” has historical significance in Sikh culture, originally signifying midnight raids by Sikh warriors.

Over time, it became a colloquial joke, but many view it as mocking a legacy of heroism. AAP MLAs, including Aman Arora and Harpal Cheema, called Bajwa’s reply disrespectful to Sikh sentiments, calling for an apology. Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan struggled to restore decorum.

This exchange comes amid broader tensions in the Assembly, including criticism from Bajwa over the session being adjourned in just 11 minutes and his FIR against CM Mann for circulating a doctored video. Political observers say this spat reflects escalating partisan tension in Punjab’s legislative process.
