Congress President Elections: Ashok Gehlot Vs Shashi Tharoor: Rahul Gandhi’s No To Gehlot’s Double Role! All You Need To Know

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, the “jadugar” of the Indian National Congress, is all set to contest for the Congress party’s national president election to be scheduled on October 17. Moreover, Ashok Gehlot, in a media statement, asserted that the “one person one post” rule applies only to those who are the nominated members.

Furthermore, after Gehlot’s statement, it had been speculated that he is not in a mood to quit the CM post even after becoming the national president of the grand-old-party. However, today in Kerala, Rahul Gandhi made it clear that the rule was adopted during the party’s “chintan shivir”. “I expect that the commitment made by the party will be maintained,” he added.

With this, Ashok Gehlot’s condition of remaining on the post of Rajasthan’s CM despite becoming the national president of the Congress party, seems to be halted. Reportedly, if everything goes as it seems to be, it will be a two cornered contest between Ashok Gehlot and Shashi Tharoor in the Congress national president elections.

What Is The Reason Behind The Gandhis’ Trust On Gehlot?

Ashok Gehlot, 71, also known as the “jadugar” of politics, has a track record of politically beating the BJP. Be it saving the government against the alleged operation lotus when Sachin Pilot moved to a resort in Haryana along with 19 MLAs, or the 2017 assembly elections in Gujarat, where the INC won 78 seats, against the 99 of the BJP.

Moreover, Gehlot’s strategies have always worked well for the Congress party. Furthermore, now Gehlot is all set to file the nomination for the election of the Congress president post. However, with Rahul Gandhi’s statement, it’s clear that Mr. Gehlot won’t be able to continue as the CM of Rajasthan, if elected as the Congress national president.

Shashi Tharoor Vs Ashok Gehlot:

In the case of the Congress party, it’s always said that no matter what, whoever has the support of the Gandhis, wins the race. Subsequently, in the battle of Shashi Tharoor Vs Ashok Gehlot, it seems that it would be an easy victory for Mr. Gehlot. Moreover, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Mr. Tharoor even loses from his home state Kerala.

If Gehlot Moves To Delhi, Will Pilot Get A Chance In Rajasthan?

Former deputy CM Sachin Pilot’s name is once again trending across the media, especially since Ashok Gehlot agreed to contest for the Congress party’s presidential elections. Meanwhile, if Gehlot moves to Delhi, the first and the most popular name for the CM post in Rajasthan, is Sachin Pilot.

However, in politics, nothing is easy. Moreover, after Pilot allegedly tried to topple his own party’s government in 2020. Furthermore, Sachin Pilot has been eyeing for the CM post, but a “yes” from CM Ashok Gehlot would be the key! Reportedly, along with state Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra, Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas and assembly speaker CP Joshi, a few more names are in Gehlot’s list for the CM post. However, the Gandhis will take the final call!
