Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has earned a nomination for the prestigious ‘Laureus World Sports Award 2025’ in the ‘Comeback of the Year’ category. The recognition comes after his remarkable return to cricket following a life-threatening car accident in December 2022. The awards ceremony is set to take place in Madrid on April 21.
Pant’s accident occurred on December 30, 2022, while he was driving from Delhi to his hometown, Roorkee. After receiving emergency medical care in Dehradun, he was later airlifted to Mumbai, where he underwent specialized treatment under the supervision of the BCCI’s medical team. The cricketer underwent multiple surgeries to reconstruct the ligaments in his right knee before beginning an extensive rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Following months of intense recovery, Pant made his much-anticipated return to competitive cricket, playing for Delhi Capitals in the IPL against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur. His comeback to Test cricket was even more spectacular, as he marked his return with a century against Bangladesh. His performance played a crucial role in India’s commanding 280-run victory.
At 27, Pant’s resilience and determination have made his journey back to the field nothing short of inspirational, earning him a well-deserved place among the Laureus nominees.
