Cristiano Ronaldo Hints At Retirement After Portugal’s UEFA Nations League Triumph Over Spain

Cristiano Ronaldo dropped a major retirement hint after helping Portugal clinch the UEFA Nations League title in a thrilling final against Spain. The 40-year-old striker was seen in tears as Portugal defeated Spain 5-3 on penalties at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Ronaldo had earlier scored a crucial equaliser to tie the match 2-2 during regulation time.

Despite carrying an injury into the match, Ronaldo played through the pain, stating, “If I had to break my leg, I would have. It’s for Portugal.” He was substituted in the 88th minute to a standing ovation and an emotional embrace from coach Roberto Martínez.

After the win, Ronaldo said, “You know how old I am. If I don’t get seriously injured, I’ll keep going.” He added, “No title compares to winning with Portugal. These are tears of joy, mission accomplished.”

With his contract at Saudi club Al-Nassr ending this month, Ronaldo’s club future also remains uncertain. He posted on social media, “This chapter is over,” after playing his final match of the season.

The UEFA Nations League final saw goals from Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Oyarzabal for Spain, while Nuno Mendes and Ronaldo responded for Portugal. The match ended 2-2 before Portugal sealed victory in the penalty shootout.
