CRPF Raid in Kapurthala Jail Uncovers Mobile Phone and Drugs in Inmate Ward

A surprise search operation conducted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Kapurthala Modern Jail has exposed a serious breach of security after officials recovered prohibited items, including a mobile phone and narcotic substances.

The operation, overseen by Assistant Jail Superintendent Baldev Singh, focused on the barracks of inmates and undertrials. During the inspection, officials discovered an unclaimed mobile phone and 36 grams of a narcotic substance hidden in the bathroom of Ward No. 3, Room No. 3.

Following the discovery, the jail authorities immediately seized the items and notified senior officials along with the local Kotwali police station. Based on the complaint filed by the prison administration, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Prisons Act.

The police have launched a thorough investigation to identify the individual(s) responsible for smuggling and concealing the contraband. Authorities are not ruling out the possibility of inside involvement or connections between inmates and external contacts.

This incident once again highlights the ongoing challenges faced by high-security prisons in preventing the infiltration of banned items. Concerns are growing over security lapses and how such contraband continues to enter jail premises despite existing protocols.

The prison department has reiterated a strict zero-tolerance policy and hinted at enhanced internal surveillance, more frequent searches, and stricter action against those found involved.

The case remains open, and more developments are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
