Death Sentence Of 8 Navy Personnels In Qatar Has Been Reduced; Reports

The death sentence of former Indian navy personnels has been changed in Qatar, as per the recent reports. This is being seen as a big victory for Indian diplomacy.

Qatar court has awarded death sentence to 8 former Indian Navy Personnels in an undisclosed case. It was claimed that these former Indian Navy Personnels were given this punishment by the Qatari court in the espionage case. But, neither Qatar nor India disclosed the matter.

The Navy Personnels were employees of Al Dahra Global Technologies, a private company that provided training and other services to Qatar’s armed forces and security agencies.

They were arrested in August last year on undisclosed charges. Some reports have claimed that they have been accused of espionage, but this has not been officially confirmed.

However, India had objected to the death sentence given by the Qatar court and had also announced all possible help to the former Indian Navy personnels.

But just now the MEA confirms that the sentences against 8 Indian naval personnel sentenced to Death in Qatar have been “reduced”. However the detailed judgment is still awaited.

As per a tweet by The Hindu, the authorities are constantly in touch with the legal team as well as their family members.
