Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta received a de*th threat through a call made to the Ghaziabad Police Control Room (PCR) late Thursday night, prompting immediate security escalation, police officials confirmed.
According to Ghaziabad ACP (Kotwali) Ritesh Tripathi, the threat came via a call to the emergency helpline number 112 around midnight. “The caller stated that the Chief Minister of Delhi would be kil*ed. We instantly alerted Delhi Police and launched efforts to trace the caller,” he said. The phone was reportedly switched off soon after the threat was made, complicating tracking efforts.
Following protocol, Delhi Police increased security at CM Rekha Gupta’s residence in Northwest Delhi and deployed additional personnel for her protection. As per the Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA) “Yellow Book” guidelines, the Chief Minister is entitled to Z-category security, which includes 22–25 personnel such as PSOs, escorts, watchers, and eight static armed guards. The protection detail can be upgraded based on threat perception assessments conducted by central security agencies on MHA directives.
Sources confirmed that Gupta has now been accorded full Z-category security cover. The incident arrives shortly after Delhi officials received bomb threat emails targeting Udyog Bhawan and Nirman Bhawan. Though these proved to be hoaxes, the capital remains on high alert.
Authorities continue efforts to identify and apprehend the midnight caller responsible for threatening the Chief Minister.
