In a tragic development, 21-year-old Vanshika Saini, daughter of Dera Bassi-based Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Davinder Saini, was found d*ad near a beach in Ottawa, Canada, on Monday. Vanshika had been missing from her rented residence since April 22. Her disappearance came to light on April 25 when a friend informed her family, prompting them to contact both local authorities and the Indian Embassy in Ottawa.
Davinder Saini, who serves as AAP’s block president and oversees the office of MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa, said a postmortem has been conducted, but it will take time to repatriate the body. The family had last spoken to Vanshika over the phone on April 22.
“We are deeply saddened by Vanshika’s death. She was a topper in her school in Dera Bassi and had been doing well in Canada. Davinder is a close associate and is in-charge of my office. This is a huge loss for us too,” MLA Randhawa stated.
He also confirmed that AAP leadership, including MPs Raj Kumar Chabbewal and Balbir Singh Seechewal, had reached out to the Union government and relevant embassy officials to assist the family. “The reason behind the death will be ascertained once the autopsy report is released,” he added.
Vanshika had recently completed a two-year health studies program and was working at a private clinic in Canada.
