After the trailer of “Sardaar Ji 3” dropped on Sunday, social media lit up with strong reactions, mainly because the film features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. Due to the current tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, the film will not release in India and will have only an international release.
Amid the backlash, Diljit Dosanjh has now spoken out. In an interview with BBC Asian Network, the actor-singer addressed the criticism he’s been facing for working with a Pakistani artist. He explained that the film was shot much earlier this year, at a time when the situation between the two countries was calm.
He said, “Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha. We shot this in Feb and then everything was fine. Uske baad, bohut saari badi cheezein humare haath mein nahi hain. Toh producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India mein toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain. Toh producers ka bohut paisa laga hua hain aur jab yeh film bann rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi.”
Diljit shared that since the producers had already invested a large amount of money, they took the decision to release the film overseas. He made it clear that he supports that choice.
“They know there will be a loss because you’re removing an entire territory. Even when I signed the film, everything was fine. Now the situation is not in our hands. So if the producers want to release it abroad, I support them.”
Talking about working with Hania Aamir, Diljit described her as a true professional.
“Very good. She’s very professional. I really respect her work and her privacy. I’m also a very private person myself and I give everyone their space, especially women. To the point hi baat hoti hai zyaada kuch nahi.”
Diljit’s comments offer a more grounded view of the situation, reminding people that the film was made before recent events unfolded, and that many decisions are beyond the artists’ control.
