Everyone is aware of Sandeep Singh’s biopic Soorma which was released in 2018. Ace actor Diljit Dosanjh plays a lead role in the film. But do you know that Diljit was not the first choice to act in the movie, it was Ranveer Singh instead. Yes, you read right, it was bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who was considered first for Soorma. But recently in one of the interviews, Sandeep himself revealed that he wasn’t sure about the actor as he wanted someone who looked like a real Sikh instead.
Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Sandeep Singh is a hockey player, who faced a lot of struggles during his journey as the player was accidentally shot during a train journey in 2006. He was almost paralysed for a year, however, due to his determination he combated all possibilities and learnt to walk again. And, in 2009, Sandeep led India to victory in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup by defeating Malaysia.
So, to showcase his struggle he want a real determined Sikh, which he thought Diljit Dosanjh will portray very nicely
So, in an interview he stated, “Ranveer Singh was definitely considered as the lead actor instead of Diljit Dosanjh. However, he was not my first choice. His look as a Sikh appealed to everyone, and they thought that he would be a good fit for Soorma. I always wanted the person who’d play my role in the film to look like a real Sikh.”
“It should not become a joke because my life has been full of struggles, and it should be justified on screen. Diljit Dosanjh did exactly that,” he further added.
For him it was easy giving him training and was all praises for him. Not only this, he says, “he picks up things really quick. It took me hardly three-four months to train Diljit because his learning power is quick. People loved my journey in the film. To show my life story in 2 hours 20 minutes on the screen wasn’t an easy job…the Soorma team did it so wonderfully. I really thank them for it, especially Diljit Dosanjh who did justice to my role.”
Further, he shows his gratitude to Tapsse Pannu, director Shaad Ali and the producers (Chitrangada Singh and Deepak Singh). Not only them, Angad Bedi, Vijay Raaz, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Satish Kaushik and Seema Kaushal, among others played key roles in Soorma.
Further, Last year, Sandeep, also confirmed a sequel to Soorma, which will be based on his political journey and will be titled Singh Soorma.
