Do You Know Gurlej Akhtar Was Just A School Going Kid When Her Debut Song Was Released?

Popular singer Gurlej Akhtar who has delivered numerous songs to the Punjabi music industry is known as ‘Duet Queen’. From Jhanjran in Jine Mera Dil Luteya to Don’t Worry by Karan Aujla she has worked with not only legendary artists but young artists too.

But do you know she started her career from a very young age and had crooned her first song when she was in school? Yes, Gurlej delivered her debut song with Sukhwinder Sukhi in the year 2001 -2002. The singer disclosed that she was in grade 12 during that time. Her debut album ‘Sharif Munda’ along with Sukhwinder Sukhi was released in 2004. The album went very well with the audience. And after that, she gave  her voice in Punjabi movies like, ‘Hashar (2008), ‘Jihne Mera Dil Luteya (2011),’ ‘Ardaas (2016),’ and many more.

Gurlej also revealed that she is the eldest in her family, her father died when she was in 8th standard. It was after his death, she decided to pursue singing as a method of providing for her family. Her family supported her for the same and it was then that she started her career.

It is wonderful how the hardships in her life made her a much stronger and more successful person. Though she got responsibilities from a very young age and as she came from a music background, it was very difficult for her to balance her study as well as career.

But we are pleased that Gurlej has given not only amazing numbers to her fans but also inspired them with her personal life.
