A tragic road accident in Vadodara, Gujarat, claimed the life of a woman and left four others injured when a speeding car rammed into multiple two-wheelers near Muktanand Crossroads around 12:30 am on Friday. The driver, identified as 20-year-old law student Rakshit Chaurasia, has been arrested. Authorities suspect he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Eyewitnesses reported that Chaurasia appeared intoxicated and was heard shouting “another round, another round” after stepping out of the vehicle. Bystanders, enraged by his behavior, caught hold of him and handed him over to the police.
The victim, Hemani Patel, had gone out with her young daughter to buy Holi colors when the accident occurred. She died on the spot, while her child and three others sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Chaurasia, a native of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, lives in Vadodara for his studies. The car belonged to his friend, Mit Chauhan, who was in the passenger seat during the accident and is currently under investigation. CCTV footage captured the horrific moment when the car plowed into the scooters, dragging the victims before stopping.
Police are awaiting medical reports to confirm if Chaurasia was indeed drunk. Meanwhile, authorities are also tracking Chauhan’s whereabouts as part of the investigation.
