After the Indian government banned 25 OTT apps for IT Act violations, including ULLU, Desiflix and ALTT, public backlash was swift. As reported by Kiddaan, the ban led to renewed trolling of Ekta Kapoor, with users wrongly tying her to ALTT’s operations. Balaji Telefilms has now issued a firm clarification. The Ekta Kapoor statement on ALTTconfirms she has had no connection to the app since June 2021.

According to the company, ALTT has been run solely by Balaji Telefilms following a merger with ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd, formalized by the NCLT in June 2025. Ekta and Shobha Kapoor resigned from all roles in the platform four years ago. The Ekta Kapoor statement on ALTT urged media to stop falsely associating her with the app’s recent ban.
The statement comes amid a wave of online trolling and media trial targeting Kapoor. While ALTT’s ban is official, Ekta has distanced herself from its content and management. Many say the Ekta Kapoor statement on ALTT was necessary to counter misleading narratives.
