Elon Musk has confirmed that AI Vine is coming back. On July 24, Musk announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the iconic short video app will be revived in a new “AI form.” His post read, “We’re bringing back Vine, but in AI form.” The original Vine was owned by Twitter, which bought it in 2012 and shut it down in 2016.
Musk first hinted at this move back in 2022, when he ran a poll asking users if they wanted Vine back. While there’s no launch date or feature breakdown yet, reports from Reuters and Economic Times suggest the app will use artificial intelligence to power video creation or discovery. Experts say AI is well-suited for short content, which is cheaper and faster to generate than longer videos.
The return of AI Vine matters because it blends nostalgia with new tech at a time when short-form video platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts are booming. If done right, it could bring X back into the viral video race. But key questions remain—when will AI Vine launch, and what will it do differently?
