In a case that sounds straight out of a scam thriller, a man in Ghaziabad was busted for operating fake embassies of obscure micronations, complete with diplomatic number plates, national flags, and edited photographs with India’s top leaders.

The accused, Harsh Vardhan Jain, had set up his elaborate operation from a rented property in the upscale Kavi Nagar area. According to the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), Jain masqueraded as a diplomat representing fictitious or unrecognized nations such as West Arctica, Saborga, Poulvia, and Lodonia. To boost his credibility, he used morphed images of himself posing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu.

He had even gone as far as installing fake embassy signage, using vehicles with forged diplomatic plates, and flying foreign flags outside his residence. His setup convinced many that he was an actual foreign representative, allowing him to exploit the image of legitimacy for personal and financial gain.

Officials revealed that Jain used his so-called diplomatic persona to run a hawala racket involving illegal money transfers through shell companies. His promises of foreign employment opportunities under fake diplomatic cover also allegedly lured unsuspecting individuals.

The STF has registered a case and seized the house and vehicles linked to the fraudulent operation. Legal proceedings are underway to track the full extent of the scam and identify any accomplices or victims.
The incident has sparked discussions about the loopholes in verifying diplomatic credentials and the unchecked use of social media imagery to establish fake identities.
