Fawad Khan and Atif Aslam’s Instagram Accounts Blocked in India Post Pahalgam Attack

In the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 dead, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated. As part of the fallout, Instagram accounts of prominent Pakistani celebrities including actor Fawad Khan and singer Atif Aslam have reportedly been restricted in India.

Users attempting to access their profiles from India are met with a message stating, “This account is not available in your region.” Both artists enjoy significant popularity in India, with a massive fan base and a history of successful collaborations in the Indian entertainment industry. However, political tensions have often affected cultural exchanges between the two countries.

This development follows a series of diplomatic retaliations after the terror incident. India cancelled all visas issued to Pakistani nationals and instructed them to return by April 30. In response, Pakistan also halted visas for Indian citizens and opened the Wagah border for Pakistani nationals returning home.

Social media restrictions are seen as part of a broader clampdown on Pakistani influence in India during periods of heightened political strain. This isn’t the first time that Pakistani artists have faced such limitations. After previous cross-border attacks, artists from Pakistan were banned from working in Indian cinema.

The restriction on social media access underscores the far-reaching consequences of geopolitical tensions, not only on diplomacy but also on cultural and artistic ties. It also highlights how political events continue to impact the digital presence and influence of Pakistani personalities in India.
