Sardar Udham Singh; Vicky Kaushal Dedicates The Best Film Award To Irrfan Khan

Sardar Udham Singh is a biopic starring Vicky Kaushal and helmed by Shoojit Sircar. Originally the makers wanted to cast Irrfan Khan as the lead role. 

At the 69th national awards, Sardar Udham Singh has won 5 awards. The film was released on the Amazon Prime last year. 

It is a biopic on a freedom fighter who assassinated the former lieutenant governor of Punjab Michael O’Dwyer in British India 1940.

After the awards were announced, Vicky Kaushal took to his official Instagram handle and shared the poster of the film. 

He expressed his love for the film and dedicated the award to the late actor Irrfan Khan. 

He wrote “Congratulations team!!! Honoured and grateful to be a part of #SardarUdham … To Irrfan Sir!”

Film’s director Shoojit Sircar also shared the poster on his Instagram handle by dedicating the victory to late Irrfan Khan. He wrote “Dedicated to Irrfan Khan”. Irrfan Khan died in 2020 because of cancer. 

69th National Awards

Apart from Sardar Udham Singh, Pankaj Tripathi won the award for the best supporting actor for his film Mimi, starring Kriti Sanon. Rocketry: The Nambi Effect was awarded as the Best Film. Pallavi Joshi won the best supporting actress for Kashmir Files, which won the Best Film on the National Integration.
