India’s First Government AI Clinic at Greater Noida Marks Historic Shift in Public Healthcare

Doctors and officials at first AI clinic of India launch event

India has witnessed a landmark transformation in public healthcare with the launch of the country’s first AI clinic of India at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida. This historic step marks a decisive move towards making government hospitals more modern, technology-driven, and patient-centric.

A milestone for government hospitals

The first AI clinic of India was inaugurated online by the Additional Director General of Health Services, Government of India. Set up under the GIMS Centre for Medical Innovation, the clinic aims to bring artificial intelligence directly into day-to-day clinical practice within a government hospital setup.

This initiative is designed to help doctors use AI-powered tools for better diagnosis, improved treatment planning, and faster clinical decision-making. By embedding AI into a real hospital environment, the clinic bridges the gap between innovation and patient care.

A national platform for healthcare startups

GIMS Director Brigadier (Dr.) Rakesh Kumar Gupta described the first AI clinic of India as the need of the hour. He noted that the platform will open new doors for healthcare startups by allowing them to develop, test, and validate AI-based solutions in real clinical conditions.

The Joint Secretary from the Department of Pharmaceuticals (Medical Devices), Government of India, also attended the inauguration and highlighted the initiative as a key national platform for promoting medical devices and AI-driven healthcare technologies in India’s public health system.

Global participation and academic support

The launch event saw participation from over 100 experts, including doctors, researchers, policymakers, and academicians from India and several other countries. The presence of international experts such as Dr. Sivakumar Manickam from the London Essex NHS Trust added global recognition to the first AI clinic of India.

GIMS has partnered with leading academic institutions like IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, and IIIT Lucknow. Together, they will focus on education and research in medical imaging, clinical decision support systems, and data-driven healthcare services.

What comes next

Following the successful online inauguration, there is growing enthusiasm among clinicians and startups ahead of the physical launch scheduled for January 6. As India accelerates its digital health journey, the first AI clinic of India is expected to become a model for future government hospital innovations.
