Flipkart Releases Official Apology To Women! Here Is Why

There are several companies that give various offers to their customers and one among them is Flipkart. And on the occasion of Women’s Day on 8 March, Flipkart had shared a message that suggested a sexist and stereotypical tone, leading to backlashes by users. And it has the internet wondering who okayed it in the first place.

Flipkart’s thoughtful idea was to promote kitchen appliances on Women’s Day. While it’s easy to see how messed that is, the message fails to see the irony altogether. It reads, “Dear Customer, This Women’s Day, let’s celebrate You./ Get Kitchen Appliances from Rs.299.”

The message drew social media’s anger as many pointed out that Flipkart’s marketing strategy was offensive in equating women with cooking and kitchens.

As backlash around the Women’s Day message grew, Flipkart released an official apology. “We messed up and we are sorry,” the e-commerce company wrote on Twitter. “We did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments and apologize for the Women’s Day message shared earlier,” it added.

Having received negative reactions from the netizens, the company apologized. But the Internet is still divided as some are mocking them for their misogynistic remarks and others are glad as they accepted their mistake.
