A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Ahmedabad’s Hathijan area on Monday night when a pet Rottweiler fatally attacked a four-month-old baby girl.
The infant was taken to the common garden of a residential society by her maternal aunt for some fresh air. At the same time, another resident came down with her Rottweiler, distracted by a phone call. In a sudden and horrifying turn, the dog broke free and lunged at the baby and her aunt.
Inspector Hitesh Baria confirmed that the pet grew unexpectedly aggressive and slipped from its owner’s grip before launching the fatal attack. The baby and her aunt were immediately rushed to the hospital, but the child could not survive the severe injuries to her neck and skull. The aunt remains hospitalized.
CCTV footage captured the harrowing moment when the large dog charged at the two, leaving bystanders in shock. The dog’s owner struggled to regain control, but it was too late.
Raju Chauhan, the baby’s uncle, shared with the media that the child’s injuries were deep and devastating. Authorities from Vivekanandnagar police swiftly responded to the scene. A post-mortem has been ordered, and an FIR will be registered after the report is received.
The tragic event has left residents shaken and has reignited conversations around pet safety and responsibility in urban neighborhoods.
