Nobody can disagree with the fact that Gehraiyaan was one of the most anticipated movies which we all have been waiting for. Since after it was announced, its trailer dropped, songs released, we found it hard to pass days. And now when it’s finally streaming on Amazon Prime Video, we have watched it and written an honest review for you. If you haven’t watched it yet, consider this review important before making up your mind.

Starting with the basic team which joined hands to make this project a complete movie, Gehraiyaan stars Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Pandey and Dhairya Karwa in the lead roles and Naseeruddin Shah as a pivotal supporting character. And Shakun Batra is the man who has directed this amazing starcast.

The trailer of the movie already gave strong hints that Gehraiyaan will present a dark story of messed up relationships, betrayal and a big bundle of lies. Describing it’s story, we’d say it’s something that didn’t connect with us. It’s the story of two cousins, Alisha and Tia, their family, past, and their partners; Karan and Zain. While Tia and Zain are soon to get married to each other, they plan a short vacation with Alisha & Karan and that’s where the chaos begins. We watched it, kept watching it, went through it’s first half and realized that it’s been long and we don’t even feel connected with it. It’s not only because the film shows the chiche problems of excessively rich people, but also because the film gives you no space to breathe in and make sense out of the story. Like, we cannot figure out how quickly the romance between Deepika Padukone (Alisha) and Siddhant Chaturvedi (Zain) blossomed and neither of them felt guilty about it.

As the story headed forward, it kept getting darker, senseless and difficult to relate with. And how unconvincing is the fact that the makers decided to name this project ‘Gehraiyaan’ but it lacked depth and failed to win our emotions. And the director can also not expect us to react according to the story when the own characters of his story aren’t doing justice to the intensity of the moment. Like, Ananya Pandey was a complete disappointment when it comes to emotional turns of the movie as not only she was expressionless, but her body language and dialogues failed to win it. Throughout the movie, there is not a single moment that makes you numb, makes your heart feel heavy or your eyes wet, and all this simply proves that it lacks emotions. And the problem doesn’t ends here, we are disappointed with the fact that Gehraiyaan tried to serve us with a lot of stuff, at moments it tries to pull all the strings towards romance and love, but at other moment, it turns out a tale if betrayal, and then a murder drama as well. And one person can surely never digest all of this in a single story.

But if we keep all this aside and briefly discuss what’s good and what’s bad in Gehraiyaan, there are some specific points that everyone needs to know. When it’s about the failings of Gehraiyaan, it not only lacked emotional intensity and depth but was also about the non-satisfactory direction and writing. You watch it to feel something inside you, and end up watching it just to finish it. And that’s exactly how the film has been made. It feels like its ending is pushed because eventually it has to end. But as we hear, everything has a bad and a good side to it, and Gehraiyaan too has something good in it. One might get impressed or fascinated with many things, but what impressed us was the flawless, effortless and heart-touching performance of Naseeruddin Shah. Even though he was just a supporting character, he turned out to be the best for us. Apart from him, we, like most of you, are impressed with its playlist and soothing music.

But as a complete package, Gehraiyaan failed to impress us. It might win your heart or there might be something that you relate with, hence you can give it a try. Also, if you are a fan of Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi or Naseeruddin Shah, this movie still deserves to be in your watchlist.
