Goa Declares “Chhaava” Tax-Free in Honor Of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj

The Goa government has declared the Hindi film *Chhaava*, a biographical drama based on the life of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, to be tax-free in the state. The film, which stars Vicky Kaushal as the iconic Maratha ruler, hit theatres on February 14. Goa’s Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, made the announcement on social media, expressing his pleasure over this decision. He described the film as a tribute to Sambhaji Maharaj’s valor, courage, and sacrifice, emphasizing that his contributions to the nation, religion, and his relentless battle against the Mughals and Portuguese were an inspiration.

“Chhaava” explores the heroic life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire, and brings his glorious history to the big screen. The movie is directed by Laxman Utekar, with a star cast including Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna. It is based on the Marathi novel “Chhava” by Shivaji Sawant and has garnered positive feedback from both critics and audiences alike. On the same day, Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister also announced the film would be tax-free in his state. Notably, the film is on track to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025, surpassing ₹200 crore and overtaking Akshay Kumar’s “Sky Force” as the year’s top performer.
