Harry Brook Withdraws From IPL 2025, Prioritizes England Cricket Commitments

England batter Harry Brook has withdrawn from IPL 2025 following a disappointing Champions Trophy campaign. England exited the tournament after losing all their group matches, leading to Jos Buttler stepping down as captain. Brook, who managed only 47 runs in three games on batting-friendly Pakistan pitches, struggled against spin. Delhi Capitals had signed him for ₹6.25 crore, but he opted out again, just as he did in IPL 2024, without traveling to India.

In a note on social media, Brook expressed regret for his decision. “I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL,” he posted on X. “I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters. I love cricket. Ever since I was a young boy I have dreamt of playing for my country and I am extremely thankful to have the opportunity to play the game I love at this level.”

The 26-year-old emphasized his commitment to England cricket, stating that he needs a break to prepare for the upcoming series. “With the guidance of people I trust, I have taken the time to seriously consider this decision. It is a really important time for England cricket and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series. In order to do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date,” he explained.

Acknowledging that not everyone would support his choice, Brook stood by his decision, prioritizing his international career. However, his withdrawal may lead to a potential IPL ban, as per the tournament’s new rule introduced last September, which penalizes overseas players who opt out after being picked by a franchise.
