Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor recently shared his thoughts on the ongoing debate about Bollywood’s future, addressing claims that the industry is “finished.” He dismissed the idea that Hindi cinema is in decline, instead emphasizing the need for innovation and fresh storytelling.
The discussion started when a social media user criticized Bollywood for relying on aging stars and outdated formulas, claiming that only Ranbir Kapoor was keeping the industry alive. Harsh responded by stating that Bollywood should not be solely defined by its past icons or conventional storytelling. He stressed the importance of taking risks, saying that filmmakers must move beyond formulaic cinema to create meaningful content.
He advocated for smaller-budget films with strong narratives, arguing that quality storytelling matters more than star power or extravagant budgets. Citing his film Thar, made for ₹20 crore, he highlighted how smart spending and creative execution can result in visually stunning productions.
Harsh also addressed the challenges of working on unconventional films like Bhavesh Joshi Superhero and Thar, explaining that projects outside the mainstream take years to materialize due to lack of industry support. Despite financial constraints, he remains committed to backing unique, high-concept cinema.
Through his candid remarks, Harsh reinforced his vision for Bollywood’s future-one that embraces originality, innovation, and storytelling that resonates with modern audiences.
