Punjab Police have detained a 26-year-old unemployed software engineer, Shubham Dubey, in connection with a series of threatening emails about b*mb blasts at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. He was picked up from Faridabad on Friday, and according to Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, the investigation is now in an advanced stage.
Dubey has been taken into custody for questioning, and police have seized his laptop and mobile phones for forensic testing to gather more information. The police called the arrest a “partial success” and said efforts are ongoing to check if others are involved.
Since July 14, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which manages the Golden Temple, has received six threatening emails warning of possible bomb attacks. These emails caused serious concern among authorities and devotees alike.
In response to the threats, Punjab Police have increased security in and around the Golden Temple, deploying more personnel and tightening entry checks to ensure the safety of the public.
Police say they are taking the matter seriously and will continue the investigation until everyone involved is brought to justice. The motive behind the emails is still being probed.
