In a major crackdown on illegal immigration, 54 Haryana men deported from US landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday after being caught entering the country through the infamous “Donkey Route.”
The group arrived on Flight OAE-4767 and was handed over to their families by the police. According to officials, most of these men are between 25 and 40 years old and hail from different Haryana districts, 16 from Karnal, 15 from Kaithal, 5 from Ambala, 4 each from Yamuna Nagar and Kurukshetra, 3 from Jind, 2 from Sonipat, and 1 each from Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, and Fatehabad.
Karnal DSP Sandeep Kumar confirmed that these Haryana men deported from US had entered the country illegally through the Donkey Route. “We’ve advised citizens not to attempt going abroad through such unlawful ways. These shortcuts can lead to serious trouble later,” he said. Police also stated that no agent-related complaints have been received yet, but background checks are underway.
The Donkey Route, also known as the “Dunki” route, is an illegal trail used by migrants to enter Western countries like the US via nations such as Mexico, Turkey, and Central America. The route involves dangerous crossings, huge financial risks, and often ends in detention or deportation.
Since Donald Trump assumed office, the US has tightened its immigration laws and increased deportations. Hundreds of Indians, especially from Punjab and Haryana, have faced similar action this year.
Meanwhile, in another major update, Haryana’s Special Task Force (STF) has arrested Lakhwinder Singh, alias Lakha — a close aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi — who was also deported from the US. Singh had been operating from America since 2022 and was wanted in multiple extortion and firing cases in Haryana and Punjab.
After continuous coordination with international agencies, Singh’s deportation was legally completed, marking a significant achievement for the STF.
Authorities have once again urged citizens to avoid falling prey to human traffickers and illegal immigration agents, emphasising the importance of verified and legal visa processes.
